As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in addition to an Educational Therapist certified by the Association of Educational Therapists, I use my clinical understanding to support often misunderstood students struggling academically, socially, and emotionally. These struggles may be heightened by their learning style, pace and challenges that interfere with their ability to achieve academic success. In addition to struggles with specific content, executive function difficulties with planning, study skills, organization and time management further challenge students’ ability to follow through to completion, thus making the journey to self-confidence and independent achievement even harder.
Developing a trusting relationship is the bedrock to feeling safe and secure enough to take risks and ask questions that students may not want to ask in front of peers, to learn alternative strategies to master material, and attempt new and unfamiliar material without an inhibiting level of anxiety.
I bring a deep understanding and compassion to my sessions to build that trust and partnership in learning. Students feel seen and safe to take risks, learn from mistakes and gain the confidence to be successful academically, emotionally and socially. I have been recognized for my ability to develop trusting and affirming relationships with students and families, and constructive working relationships with allied professionals and schools.
